I think I’ll have myself a beer.
Remember when ska music was popular? Easy to get into, it was fun and approachable. You knew as soon as you heard those horns, you were in for a good time. Now imagine somebody took that head nodding recipe for fun and put it in a glass. You’d end up with something a lot like the brews you’ll find at Casual Animal Brewing Company in downtown Kansas City.
Located at 17th and McGee in the Crossroads District, you’ll know you’ve found that sweet spot of great beer and good times from the moment you walk in the place, especially if it’s one of those great Missouri afternoons where the sun is shining in through the opened garage-style door.
Belly up to the bar or find a table and order yourself a stout, available either with CO2 or Nitro carbonation (get the Nitro - if that’s an option, always choose the Nitro). Then sit back and relax in this cool space, formerly a tobacco warehouse, and enjoy yourself. You can’t really help it with a pint of the good stuff in your hand.
A work of love by Kyle and Lara Gray, Casual Animal Brewing Company is only focused on one thing right now: good beer. And that’s something they more than deliver. Kyle learned brewing at local legend craft brewery Free State in Lawrence, but the beers here are all his own. The couple also lived in Fort Collins, so they put a big emphasis on that laid-back Colorado vibe.
Everything on tap is approachable and easy-drinking, from the traditional choices like IPAs and a multigrain Brown Ale to the more adventurous Monkey Banana Cream Pie Ale. It’s all good stuff, trust me on this.
So come on by, grab a pint, play a little shuffleboard and just have a good time. And if you see me with a drink in my hand, be sure to say “hi.”
