One of the most exciting things to happen to me last year was getting a message from my friend and fellow writer Jonathan Bender, asking if I'd contribute a recipe to his new book Cookies & Beer.
Of course, it would be a recipe for spent grain dog cookies! And I knew right away that coconut - a highly nutritious food and the name of my miniature pinscher - would be a key ingredient.
As it turned out, my friends at Green Room Burgers & Beer, an adorable nanobrewery in the Westport district of Kansas City, were about to brew a porter and give me the spent grains. Since adding toasted coconut would only make that beer more delicious, a collaboration was born.
Papa Louie's Coconut Porter was first served last December at a rescue fundraiser/birthday party co-hosted by Beer Paws. The lovely brew returns this weekend for another special event.
Dogs are welcome on the Green Room patio this Saturday, October 10, from 2 to 5 p.m.
The humans can drink Papa Louie's Coconut Porter, and the doggies can try Coconut Porter Beer Paws.
Jonathan's book Cookies & Beer, hot off the press, will be available for purchase. Partiers will also have the opportunity to learn more about - and donate to - the Beer Paws campaign for a new kitchen.
Green Room Burgers & Beer is located at 4010 Pennsylvania Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri. If you plan to attend this event, please let us know with an RSVP on Facebook!
